I lost my keys or at least I thought I did.

Kinja'd!!!

I got a ride with my brother-in-law (who rented a Nissan Titan for a casual trip to Nashville for the weekend) from work to pick up my wife for dinner downtown, leaving my car at the office overnight. This morning I went to grab my keys and realized that I did not have them, anywhere! Searched the rental, my wife’s car, yesterday’s clothing, nothing!! Figured I dropped them somewhere, I’ll grab the spare and call the places we went last night as they open.

However doubt was creeping in to my mind that I ever had my keys at all yesterday. It’s a bulky switchblade thing and I can really feel them weighing down my pocket normally - I don’t remember having that sensation . I brought breakfast to work yesterday and my hands were full when I got out of the car. Surely to god I didn’t just leave the keys in the ignition and walk away - let me take that thought all the way through. 7 am 8/9 I got out of my car and went to my office, brought my lunch and breakfast so I never went to the car again, hopped in the truck at 5, went downtown, home, came back this morning around 6:30 am to find...my damn keys in the ignition of my car!!!

Whoops.

I mean, it’s not like anyone would be able to steal your car. First of all it’s a Fiat, so there’s a high probability that it wouldn’t start. Second, there’s an even higher chance that any potential thief wouldn’t know how to drive a manual. There is a chance that both of those happen, but the odds are probably infinitesimal .

but but but...what if it did start?

*side note, it occasionally just cranks and cranks and cranks and never catches. I seem to remember something about possible vapor lock, but it always starts when you stop completely and try again. Such a temperamental little meatball.

no kidding! I feel foolish and I’m blaming it on stress at work

Still have to overcome the inability to drive a stick.

That’s kind of annoying. When I had my Explorer it would sometimes do that, it eventually gave up on actually starting and it was eventually diagnosed as the crankshaft position sensor.

I kept doing this after driving my dad's car with a pushbutton ignition for like two weeks. I got back in the habit of taking,my keys out by locking the car with the lock on the door (no remote, I just wasn't locking it before)
